The Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority has updated its Flight Safety Notification Directive to air operators and airport operators to ensure that all flights departing from Jamaica comply with the United States’ Transportation Security Administration.

  • Passengers may now take on board one TRANSPARENT (one quart/ one litre) plastic bag containing liquids, gels and aerosols in containers of not more than 3 ounces or 90 ml. These items include beverages, shampoo, suntan lotion, creams, toothpaste, hair gel, and hair spray. The transparent plastic bag must be re-sealable with the contents fitting comfortably and may be inspected or x-rayed separate from the passengers’ carry-on luggage.
  • Items that are over 3 ounces and do not fit in the plastic bag must be declared to screening personnel at the boarding gate or the security checkpoint.
  • Other items allowed on board are baby formula and baby food in containers (if a child is traveling) medications and other liquids for medical conditions.
  • Passengers are also permitted to purchase liquids, gels and/or aerosols inside the departure lounge (otherwise known as the sterile area) and these may be delivered to the aircraft or be screened at the security check point.
Passengers traveling to other countries should contact their airline for information about any extra security measures or precautions that might be required.
